Hi Nick,
First there were the awards http://www.prweb.com/releases/2008/12/prweb1710354.htm and now, a musician in Los Angeles who had my early recordings growing up plans to release a “Tribute” album of my songs in 2009. Planned long before the release of the film “Juno,” he has assembled many different musicians to cover my songs in new and inventive ways–from hip-hop and rap–to rock, folk and jazz. My son Evan does a jazzed-up saxophone duet on one song and there’s even a Klezmer version of my song “Don’t Put You Finger Up Your Nose” sung entirely in Yiddish. The album features at least two-dozen songs by artists who had my original vinyl recordings as kids.
If you know anyone who might be interested in doing a song, pass the word.
There’s a link to the new CD project where you can hear some of the songs submitted so far: http://www.snailsounds.com/barryloutribute.html
